MWH Awarded Contract with the South Florida Water Management District

Broomfield, Colo., August 19, 2009 – MWH, the wet infrastructure sector leader and global provider of environmental engineering, construction and strategic consulting services, has been awarded a $4.7 million contract to help the South Florida Water Management District create a system to more efficiently manage its water resources.

MWH started a two-year project to develop an Operations Decision Support System (ODSS) – a new tool to support the district in implementing daily water management strategies based on local usage needs and meteorological data, as well as regulatory and environmental requirements.

The South Florida Water Management District is a regional governmental agency responsible for water quality, flood control, water supply and environmental restoration in 16 counties. As the oldest and largest of the state’s five water management districts, agency manages and protects water resources on behalf of 7.5 million South Floridians. The South Florida Water Management District also is the lead agency in restoring the Everglades – the largest environmental project in U.S. history.
“Our work in creating this new operation system and process shows our commitment to creating sustainable solutions for the South Florida community and reaffirms MWH’s position as a leader in the wet infrastructure sector,” says Phil Smith, vice president of business technology for the MWH Business Solutions Group and project manager for the ODSS. “This important collaboration will benefit the citizens of South Florida by providing District water managers with enhanced tools to efficiently manage local water resources.”
MWH will integrate the ODSS with the district’s water management and information experts, as well as incorporate business intelligence software from MWH’s strategic partner, Sean Allen, LLC.
